Good Afternoon,

This morning when I reviewed the job log, I noted several files that did not back up. Can anyone clue me in as to why these files may not have backed up, and a proper produre to take with regard to these files?

(Veritas v. 10.x on a Windows 2003 Server)

BACKUPSERVER.domain.com (Windows 2003 Server)
Unable to open the item C:\WINDOWS\system32\wins\winstmp.mdb

SERVER1.domain.com (Windows 2000 Server)
Unable to open the item C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Applications
Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\gmgr0.dat - skipped.
Unable to open the item C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Applications
Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\gmgr1.dat - skipped.

SERVER2.domain.com (Windows 2000 Server)
Unable to open the item C:\WINNT\system32\CPL.CFG - skipped

Thank-You,

-David

Those are files that were probably in use at the time. I generally set exceptions for those files or directories so that we don't even try to back them up. The first one is the WINS database, and the second and third are related to files being downloaded via Windows Update/Automatic Updates. You wouldn't want to restore those files anyway, since they would be re-created on the server during normal use.

The last file seems a little odd, it looks like a config file for the Windows control panel applet. I suppose if that file was open or being used at the time you might get that file skipped too.

Hi there...
