Every backup always skips the files below. Obviously they are tied to SQL Server but I dont know how important they are and wether or not I should back them up. Does veritas has an option to stop a running file, back it up and start it again?

Looks as if your running Windows Small Business server. What version of Backup Exec?

If you create a batch file and place it in the pre-post command in the job setup.

Yeah, SBS with BE 10. I'll have to dig up my old dos commands, is it net stop to stop a service?

Yes, they are important. However, you cannot backup .mdf and .ldf files while they are online UNLESS you:
1. use SQL Server backup commands
2. use Veritas' Agent for SQL Server.

I suggest not using Veritas to backup those files. Have your SQL Server DBA do the backups to disk and then you COPY the backup files to tape using Veritas.
