I'm trying to access a datafile on a server different from the Webfocus server.

I've tried putting the entire path to the file - \\servername\folder\data.txt

But I just get a FOC229 'Problem accessing external file' error. The path is correct and the file exists. If I put the same file on the server itself (so the path is 'C:\folder\data.txt' I have no problem.

I created a folder where all users had full rights - read, write, modify etc on the other server, but I still just get FOC229.

Is there a setting on the Webfocus server itself?

CMD NET USE S: /DELETE
CMD NET USE S: \\servername\folder
FILEDEF DATA DISK S:\DATA.TXT

I've spoken to senior programming, who tell me that it SHOULD work, by specifying the name as \\servername\folder\filename

Please open a case with IBI Customer Support, so we can get this fixed A.S.A.P.

We've found the answer. We went to the Administration console, then Configuration, then Reporting Server, and changed the IBI_REPORT_USER to a username which also had read and write privileges on the network drive. When we did this, the report ran fine.
