Not with PHP, as by the time PHP starts to work on the file(s), the file(s) have already finished uploading.
And while they are uploading, no PHP is being executed.
You'll need to look into Javascript or AJAX for that.
Something like this:
Or even Flash based.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.
And while they are uploading, no PHP is being executed.
