Hello,
I have a few client that create audio files. They send us the files and we transcribe them in MS Word.

IF there an ftp file transfer system we can use, putting a MAC ftp client on their computer, set it to upload the audio files to our windows based ftp server.

We've used Fetch for going on 12 years, very easy and cheap. Go to versiontracker.com click mac and search ftp, Fetch will come up.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Macs (OS X based ones, at least) come with an FTP client. Just open Terminal and run the FTP command with the hostname or IPaddress of your windows-based FTP server.

Note that FTP will not fix up stuff like line-endings for text files, etc. You'll also need to tell it when you're sending a binary file (like a MS-Word document), otherwise it will mangle the file.

If you Google for CyberDuck, you will find an easy to use GUI based FTP client for free.

is there any ftp client app that works on both MAC and Windows computers seemlessly, so nothing gets jarbled in the MS word docs that we would like to send back and forth between the computers. (email is not an option in our field)

Jarbling occurs if the FTP client is not set up to understand the DOC filetype as BINARY. This is easily set in most any GUI FTP client.

For Windows, consider Filezilla )free=.

Hmmm... my keyboard is acting up.

Free should have been wrapped in parentheses.

Does Cyberduck, fetch, filezilla work on both windows pcs AND mac pcs? We want one ftp client application one all computers so we can support it. No one has really answerd that question

Cyberduck and Fetch are mac. Filezilla is windows.

You should not need any support for an ftp client. They're usually dead simple.

We use Fetch. Launch application,go to file menu/new connection, connect to server (allows you to save that connection as a shortcut so you don't have to bother with domain, username and password again). Click on the Upload files button, select the file, leave format set to auto, and up goes the file(s). You can also upload entire folders.

We've never once had any problem and have been using it for about 12 years. We ftp complex, and long, graphics projects to various print houses and have never had any misreads of info sent.

At the worst, if something were to get garbled, change the format to binary (simple drop down menu in main screen) as that will usually accommodate anything.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Each FTP app looks about the same, does the same and works in the same manner.

The only way you'll get it the same is to use command line FTP. Try that if you only want to support one app.
