Hi guys,

I have a system which is getting me really worried. I had some file system problem then re-installed. The system worked for about a day and was rebooted a few times. I then rebooted today and notices symptoms like another file system error. I tired top re-install but I get to a screen which says It finds no IDE drive. This makes no sense because the system boots up until the error and it also detects that there is a previous installation.

How can I fix this?

This is a CS1000

Here is what I get when trying to re-install:

Checking for previous installation...

Installation of New Linux base Operating System
Existing Linux base release:
System Release: nortel-cs1000-linuxbase-6.00.18.00
Build Timestamp: Tue Jun 2 18:04:48 EDT 2009

New Linux base release:
System Release: nortel-cs1000-linuxbase-6.00.18.00
Build Timestamp: Tue Jun 2 18:04:48 EDT 2009

This is a re-installation, not an upgrade, of Linux Base.
If there is backup data available on an USB or
SFTP server, it can be recovered at the subsequent
"Base Configuration Data Selection" stage.
If this was meant to be an upgrade operation,
abort this installation and invoke upgrade CLI.

I found this report below which suggested that you need to use a different USB stick.

trying to install Linux 7.5 onto a CPMG card via the USB connection
Getting this error:

Unsupported hard drive configuration has been detected on this server.
Please follow the NTP documentation for the correct configuration.

No solution on Avaya

Google found this on a pbxInfo site:
I had this problem during my install too.
It means that the USB drive you are booting from has not been correctly formated and built as a boot disk.
My fix was to reformat and re-create the USB install drive. It's likely that your USB drive has a hidden partition that is messing things up.

Using another USB stick solved

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

This is release 6.0 and I am using compact flash. I just tried another install compact flash and I am getting the same issue.

If you are using a CPPM card, have you checked the small dip switch is set correctly?. I think it's located below where the compact flash card is plugged in on the right hand side.

Yes, I had just re-installed and everything was working. I have just tried with another hard disk and I am getting the same error.

Any ideas as to how I can re-format the disk to try from scratch?

Normally, if you are reinstalling using the instructions in the NTP, a reformat of the HD is a part of the routine. However, you will get a question if you want to reformat the admin partition in which to answer yes. If you absolutely want to be on the safe side, find a laptop with IDE 2,5" drive, put the HD in a boot into a "ubuntu live"/knoppix/BartPE or even Windows PE to format the partitions with lets say FAT32, and then take it back to the CPPM card again.

had a question about DIP switch. Could you please tell us in what position the DIP switch is set to?
