Hi all,
I setup a domain with a Windows 2003 server and Windows XP clients. I joined the clients to the domain. After they were joined, I created a policy that pointed their My Documents to a share in the server.

Here is the issue, whenever I log off, I would get a pop up that would start synchronizing files. Since there is nothing to synchronize, it is very quick. Anyway, I turned the offline feature off in the Default domain policy, did a gpupdate /force, but the problem still persists.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem. Under User Configuration > Admin Templates > Network / Offline Files try enabling the "Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline" setting.

Offline files can be identified by a small blue arrow symbol on top of files and folders. If there are files available offline then the synchronisation tool will run when you logoff. You can right click these folders and stop them from being available offline.

Hi guys thanks for responding.

Yes there were two small blue arrows on the My Documents (which is what I set up to re-direct). So I enabled the "Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline" setting, did a gpupdate /force, and rebooted the client. When I logged back in the blue arrows were gone.

I also disabled the setting to synchronize files on log off. I did a gpupdate /force and rebooted again.

However, when I log off, I am still getting the popup that says something is synchronizing. Am I not setting the policy right?

Try opening Folder Options on the client and go to the offline files tab. Hold down Ctrl and Shift and click on the delete files button which should ask to re-initialise the cache.

That may well sort it for you.
