Hi and thanks for your time in advance!

I have a P2P setup for a client (desktop xp pro acts as a simple file server) and two laptops (both the *same* laptop). We have "offline files" enabled, and have selected the appropriate folders to sync at logoff with the shared drive on the file server. Laptop one works like a champ. Laptop two had a sync error....it tried to sync with a folder that was not shared. Finally was able to clear that, but, at logon, a computer icon comes up in the sys tray and states "you have files yet to be synced...". When you open it and attempt it, it looks for the folder on the file server that is NOT shared. Not even sure how this non-shared folder came about. I attempted to delete the files from that particualr folder (after backing them up), but to no avail. The normal sync appears to be working fine now, but still get that deal at logon. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

Are you asking how to delete Offline Files?

Hey linney!

Thanks for the reply. Played around with this again tonight. I did what the link stated. Cleared and all was well, but........please read below, copied from the email I had sent to my clients...it explains it all.

Here’s the problem that keeps arising. In playing around with the problem even further, it is definitely looking to sync with the *old* Dell that we removed. You had the “shared folder” set on the old Dell, correct? With that, the *only* time the sync fails is if you open up My Computer, then go to tools, then synchronize. That is when the old shared folder gets checked off for syncing and it’s no longer there, and that is why you get the error. With all that said, what I’d like to request you guys to do is to *not* use the tools > synchronize menu in My Computer, just right click the folder you want to make available offline and let the log on or log off do the syncing. I just tried it like this on both laptops numerous times and all is well.

So, with all that, any ideas? Only when you use the syncronization from the tools menu does it want to look for the previous sync folder from the old computer which was replaced. Baffled on this one....
Thanks linney or anyone else!!

grez,

i know its mentioned in linney's link, but often overlooked -- did you hold down the ctrl and shift keys while clicking the Delete Files button? That option not only erases the offline files but erases the \\server\share\ references.
