File sharing on ESX VM

I created a vm on VMware GSX which is a Windows 2003 Server vm. I got ESX Enterprise and moved the GSX vm to ESX and converted it. The virtual machine does not file share with the domain controller on the network. There is no netlogon, sysvol etc sharing.

Does anyone know if ESX automatically disables the file sharing between a vm and a domain controller that is not a vm? Is it an issue with the firewall on the ESX Console?
Thanks

What do you mean exactly by "The virtual machine does not file share WITH the domain controller on the network"? Do you mean that you cannot view the DC shares from the VM, or are you saying that you thought there would be a netlogon and sysvol share on your VM?

A DC has netlogon, and sysvol shares, whereas a new Server 2003 installation with no roles defined won't display any shares, as the only ones that exist are hidden admin shares.

If you are concerned that the VM is not sharing, then create a share on any folder on the VM, and then try to view it using 'net view' from another machine.

Depending on what you actually meant, you should check the network settings on your VM, as the virtual NIC may have been replaced/upgraded during the conversion process, and you may need to reconfigure its settings, including allowing 'file and printer sharing' on the windows firewall.

The ESX firewall has no affect on the VMs as far as I am aware.

If you are happy that the VM is connected to a virtual switch which in turn is bound to a NIC on your LAN, then I would just treat it as normal Windows networking issue.

If I have misunderstood what you meant, then please provide more details.
