Okay, I've worked on this for about two weeks in my lab and I've hit a wall. I have two domain controllers in a root/child domain configuration. I want to replicate login scripts between the root and all child domains. Here's my configuration.

-DC1 (root) and DC2 (child) are both in the same forest.

-I've created two sites and subnets and placed DC1 in the child and DC2 in the root.

-I verified that I can connect to each of the servers using domain name and server name. I can resolve each server through the DNS of each server.

-In the DNS server my domain that the server hosts is DS integrated and I created a secondary domain and setup zone transfers between the two servers and that works without error.

-when I attempt to force replication I receive the message that I can't force replication between sites, replication will occur during the next cycle.

- I receive no errors that stick out other than the blue information logs.

I'm at wits end on this and I need help with this, I just don't know why replication is not taking place.

NOTE: this is for a project where my root server will be in Dallas and I'll have 5 other servers configured as child domains off my root. We are migrating them from Novell to Windows 2000 and I would like to setup replication of the login scripts so the admin in Dallas only has to make one change at the root DC and it will replicate out to the others. Let me know if you either have questions or a better way to do this.

Thanks

Sites and services is active directory replication. You would need to set up a domain based DFS root, and take advantage of FRS.

The scripts directory in sysvol will replicate to all DCs in same domain by default. It will not replicate to DCs in other domains, but you should be able to do this with DFS.

Thanks a lot, guess I should have started here first and saved myself a big headache. I'm going to take a few asprin and work this weekend to get this going.

Thanks again
