File Replication database corrupt

Hi,

Have recently taken over a site which has problems with it's active directory. It has only one DC, which is Windows 2000 Server and on trying to do a DC promo on a new server, I find the SYSVOL and NTLOGON directories never appear.

This seems to be because the file replication database is in a corrupt state on the original server. The File replication service stops abotu every 15 minutes or sooner if something tries to use it. FRS Diag reports :-

NtFrs 05/01/2005 12:19:07 Error 13506 The File Replication Service failed a consistency check (!"Frs database is corrupted") in "DbsDBInitialize:" at line 3588.

I have NO backups here and am looking for a way to put this database in a consistant state so I can promote another server properly.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

You can try the following MS Knowledgebase articles, one of them should give you the instructions on a restore (authoritative, non-authoritative). #22111, #290762, #291165.

I just had the Event 13568 (journal wrap error), but I had another domain controller to replicate from.

There may be other articles that will apply specifically to your situation, so keep looking. You can even do a search with your event number and see what comes up.

Thanks for the reply.

I found Article # 290762 earlier and have done an authoritative restore. Replication looks better, I now see a netlogon and sysvol, and the correct links have appeared in AD Sites and Services.

There are still a few errors in FRSdiag and the event log that I will research when back on site tomorow.
