cr XI windows 7

after I edit a file in cr and then close it, if I try to delete it via windows explorer, I get an error saying' 'This action (delete) can't be completed because the file is open in Crystal Reports.' but it's not; I can even close cr and reopen it and I still get the error. only if I restart my system can I delete the report file.

also, sometimes when I open a file, I get a message saying, 'This report could not be opened for writing, any changes must be saved to a file with a diferent name.' this doesn't always happen, but when it does, it's frustrating and I have to restart my system or fiddle about.

these two may be part-in-parcel but I have not idea what to do or where to look.

thanks

Just what are you doing? Crystal as such only reads files. Are you using SQL to write data?

thanks for your reply Madawc

I'm editing a CR report file to change the layout and add some fields to the report; it's the CR report file itself - report_name.rpt - that I'm editing, not a data file. from your question, "Are you using SQL to write data?" it sounds that you're thinking I'm trying to update a data file with CR.

does that make more sense?

thx

Then it's new to me. Maybe you're not closing Crystal in a standard manner.

If that's not it, I suggest you start a new thread explaining that it is the Crystal report sources that are givine problems.

I think that I'm doing it the normal way, at least the way I've always done it.

I'm not quite sure how to word it differently but I'll give it a try.

thanks

Are you connecting to Crystal via Citrix or via some remote connection.

I have seen this happen when the citrix connection fails to close the report properly.

Are you using two screens and dragging the Crystal application to the second screen, I have seen similar problems with that too and now only work with crystal on the lead screen.

Please don't create multiple posts on the same topic. I responded to your other post.

hi lbass

I apologize for posting in two forums, but Madawc suggested that I start a new thread explaining that it's the Crystal Report course giving the problem (above).

I'll not do it again, and thank you, I refer to my other post.
