Hello,

I work with an application which is developed using VB 6.0. When it opens it reads a text file and creates some arrays. When the application is opening in Windows 2000 it is much faster than a machine with Windows XP. In 2000 it takes about 2 min and in Xp it is about 8 min. Is anyone aware of the speed difference between XP/2000 or any solution to it?

Thanks

Susan

The OS should not affect the speed. Are the processors and amount of RAM equal on both machines? Even if they are a 6 minute difference is quite strange.

Swi

Thanks for the reply. The processors and RAM are comparable. I know it is strange to have this much difference. But don't know why this is happening... I am still researching.. If anyone have more suggestions or anything please let me know.

Thanks

Susan

Are other processes running on the machine while testing is taking place? Also, are you using FSO or some other method to read the text file?

Swi

I am using FSO for file handling. There is no other process running which takes large amount of time. But I created a new exe and that seems to run faster in the same machine with XP. But in another XP machine it still takes about 6.5 min(faster though). So I am not sure what exactly is going on. I think I need to look into it more.. Thanks again for asking.

What about the hard drives? or the bus that the hard drives are on? how big is the file that it is reading?
maybe the file is all fragmented on the one machine.

Susan,

Am I right in thinking that this is a repeat thread?

It makes it easier for people to help you if you restrict yourself to one thread per topic...

Nope - I'm utterly wrong in thinking repeat thread.

My apologies...

Thanks you all for the replies. I am looking into certain things... So I'll let you know all what I find out..
Thanks again

Susan

You don't have virus check running on the files as they load do you?
