File Not Found when opening MS Proj File

When I open an MS Project File I get 2 identical error messages Visual Basic Error: File Not Found. If I attempted to open the Visual Basic Editor in this file I get 4 of the same error and there is no Visual Basic code for This Project.

It is only in one file. Other Projects I open do not do this. Any ideas?

What happens when you save the file as SomeOtherName and then open it?

Are you sure there are no macros? Once the file has been opened, don't go into VBA, click on Tools | Organizer | Modules-tab and see what it says for Global.mpt and your project file.

Report back.

If I save as another file name, I still get the same error messages.

If I go into the Organizer and Click on the Macros tab, I get the same error message.

It appears that this particular file is corrupt. I have read some advice to import the project into another project. Unfortunately, due to some formatting we use this will take a lot of time to reconstruct.

I was wondering if anyone new how to repair the missing .dll or whatever may be causing this particular file to be missing VBA information.

File | Open
File | save as ... and set "Save as type" (in the dialog box) to "Project database (*.MPD)"
Save the file
exit from Project
Start Project
File | Open ... and set the "Files of type" (in the dialog box) to "Project database (*.MPD)"

No guarantees ... but this has worked for a variety of other problems and might work here.

Which version are you working with?

As for Organizer ... you didn't tell me what it says on the Modules-tab for both Global.mpt and the project.mpp file.

When in the Organizer, if I click on the Module tab I recieve the File Not Found message. After OKing the message, it displays all the Global.mpt Modules and none in the schedule I am having difficulties with. If I attempt to copy a module from the Global.mpt, I get the File Not Found error message several times.

I get the same error messages even if I export to a .mpd file and re-open the .mpd file.

Hmmm ... ok, let's try this:

Start project
Open the file
Alt+F11 (open VBA)

On the left side of the VBA window:
1. Click on the "+" next to "ProjectGlobal (Global.mpt)"
2. Click on the "+" next to "Modules" (under ProjectGlobal.mpt)
3. Go through each subroutine in each module to see if it opens a file and, if so, confirm that it can be found.

Repeat the process for the modules under your project which you will find when you click on the "+" sign next to "VBAProject(YourProjectNameGoesHere)"

Other than that, I'm at a loss. Sorry.

I had the same problem and posted a question on it today. I then found the responses to your question and found that when I copy the whole project to a new file, the problem does seem to go away. I need to experiment more though.

The problem goes away!?!? Wow! Maybe I'll make that my first suggestion in the future <grin>.

If you do find out what actually fixes the problem, please let us all know. Thanks.
