I have a problem with files still being held open by the server long after the user has logged out or rebooted. I disabled file locking on the client (4.9), and tried using the "Set client file caching enabled=off" command but would only give the a help screen like I was not using the command properly. Have noticed this on mostly XP / 2000 PC's and some 98's.

Any ideas?

Thanks

The file caching option is not available in NetWare 4.x. What type of virus scanning software are you using and is it running on the server as well?

Our server is running CA InoculatIT 4.5 on Server, and 7.0/6.0 on workstaions. I didn't see any settings for file locking anywhere.

Try disabling your server virus scanning software to see if that resolves the issue

I disabled the virus software, noticed an improvement. The files did clear faster. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

Thanks again Lad

I would now suggest you check if there are any software updates that need applying to the server version, or whether this has been reported before - it may not be wise to leave your server virus scanner disabled.

Client 4.90SP1a has file locking issues so go back to 4.83SP or 4.90 without SP1

Thanks for the help, 4.90Sp1a looks like the fix I was looking for.

Thanks again
