I am working with Photoshop 5.0.2 and a document that I was working on suddenly started giving me the message " could not open because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." when I try to open it.

Which file format ? PhS cannot read BMP-32.
In this case open by MsPaint and save. Then it´s BMP-24.
Other critical files: CMYK-JPEG, Multipass-JPEG (forget always
the English name for this type). ---Gernot

The file format is psd. This document was working fine, then one day I started getting that error message.

Quik: then the file is corrupted. Obviously you
use the same PhS version as generator and receiver.
I had this only once: Symantec AntiVirus,
"check ALL files and repair" . This action corrupted
PSD files.
I don´t think, that PSD files, which are corrupted in
a normal work flow, can be repaired.
Perhaps an indicator for an unstability somewhere ?
Hard disk ? RAM ?
Sorry- not much help. ---Gernot
