Hi, to anyone that may be able to help me. i have been working on a corel draw file for quite a while now and had no problems until last night when i was working on the file and an error message came up saying that an that error had occured to save work and close down corel and restart. I had just resaved the file under a different name before it happened and today when i went open the files neither would open for me. What can I do to save it?

Try importing file rather than opening this sometimes works - also look for the backup file, unless you have changed settings this will be in the same folder as the original and will be called - backup of your filename.cdr you may be able to at least salvage some of your work.

Thanks, I just tried importing and it actually got to 76% but then error message came up. I had also tried opening the back up which is quite old but it opens and is something to work with rather than starting all over again. i have tried copying the file into other folders and renaming the file. No luck! I also looked for a temp file that it may have created but no luck. Still, there may be way..... i hope

Out of interest how big is the file and what does it contain ie vectors/bitmaps/imported files/text etc. What was the last thing you did before the error.

Hi Alan,
It is only a small file of text 30kb about 6 pages long. I was just finalising the final text, saved the file under a different name so I would have a copy. It was just after that. And the weird thing is that the new file I renamed didn't create a back up and the one I was working on didn't update. Any ideas??

If you want to send the file to test@adsignwriting.co.uk use your tek-tips handle as the subject and I will see if I get lucky in opening it and I will obviously send it back to, at least it should show if it is a file problem or system problem.
Regards

When Corel 12 crashes it sometimes makes a backup under (better write this down)
C:\Documents and Settings\(your name)\Local Settings\Temp\
The file name may only be a 1.cdr, or 2.cdr, but the file is recoverable and once it's open you can rename it.

thanks Craig,
Although i have created this file in Corel 9 I have looked for the local setting folder and unable to find it. Im sure it used to be there, should it be? maybe I have deleted it by accident.
