file access over network slow 1

I have XP pro
loggon to 2000 server...shared drive browsing/opening files are fast as should be...but the slowness comes when I save a new/edited file....no matter what size..1k-10 mb....they all take 2-3 mins to save....the server and xp box are side by side....internet/intranet is fast..only saving is slow!!??
any ideas

it did lead me to the correct idenifying issue...antivirus...disabled it and it saved as it should have....so I need to reconfigure AV....thanks a lot...
