Hi all,

I have the following setup:

Windows Server 2003 (with Exchange 2003) running as a single DC in an office. Everything works just great for the users in the office.

I have one remote user who accesses the network via a VPN (Watchguard MUVPN to be precise).

The issue is that he can not access the server via mapped drives or UNC paths.

I got Outlook working by setting it to use NTLM authentication only so I guess my issue is with Kerberos at some level. I can login to the server using the administrator accout from the remote machine, but it refuses the actual user point blank.

Initially I thought this may be a DNS issue, but I have tried setting the IP stack to point to the IP of the server to no avail.

Any ideas, as usual, more than welcome!

Thanks,

Magz...

I have the EXACT same problem. My user is using the Watchguard MUVPN client 6.1.2 with Windows XP. Outlook 2003 connects just fine with the VPN, but cannot access any mapped drives or shares on the server. It prompts me with a network login screen when simply trying to browse for server shares (ex: Start -> Run: \\server)

Any progress with this issues? I thought this was DNS as well, but included a A record to the server in the remote PC's hosts file.

Hi Russell,

It turned out that it was a problem with the Kerberos trust between the server and the client. I took the machine to client site, removed it from the domain, renamed it and then re-added it to the domain. Everything ran fine after that.

Cheers,

Magz...
