I move files between computers using a thumb drive. I have somehow gotten into the situation where all the files in a folder are denied write access. I am looking for a way to set the permissions on all the files together. I know how to do it individually. I have tried "ATTRIB -R *.*" but it fails too.

Change the owner of the root folder and set permissions to inherit

Thank you for the suggestion to change and propagate the owner and permissions but how does one do that? I cannot find anything in a folder properties nor in the control panel folder option. I beat the system by creating a new folder and copying, not moving, the files to it.

Microsoft did some good things in windows 7 but left out a lot of XPs facility.

thank you for replying.

You can't if the thumb drive is FAT32 ...

Properties -> Security -> [Advanced] -> Owner -> [Edit] -> [√] Replace owner on subcontainers and objects -> [Apply]
