Fifa 2002 hangs in xp pro

I am running (or trying to) fifa 2002 on windows xp pro, i have an athlon 1500xp and 256mb, 32mb pro savage, dvd-cdrw combo. I also downloaded a update from the microsoft update site that supposed to have fixed this (and other games inc. age of empires 2). What happens is that i can play a match, but when it finishes and is supposed to go back to the menu it locks up. (pressing control alt del brings up task manager and i have to end the program). Any thoughts on this?

If it annoys Microsoft then it's worth doing, and doing well!!

First thing I can tell you to do is make sure your video and sound drivers are up to date. Then uninstall and reinstall Fifa, to make sure it's a clean, good install. Jennifer Sigman

tried that! all drivers are up-to-date and it was just installed (and the 3d setup options correct) but still doesn't work, may try re-installing xp as it did work on a previous installation before i got hit by a series of viruses (norton didn't stop them) and reformated the drive.

I had exactly the same problem with Fifa 2001. I solved the problem by running the program in compatibility mode for Win98/me. I thing this should work for you too.

tried to run it in compatibility mode, and it didn't work. I have now re-installed xp (with the same drivers etc) and it now works fine (that's xp for you!!!).
If it annoys Microsoft then it's worth doing, and doing well!!
