I have a stack of two Baystack 450s that are cascading with the base having a 400-2FX MDA installed in it....

Hardware config shows the MDA in place on the stack.. port config shows the 2 multimode ports down...

I have these lines working in the current baystack 102 hub so I know they are fine.. I'm just moving them down to the new 450 with the MDA module and I cant get the link to go up....

all I did to install them was pop them in...

I just wanted to do a brain check and ask if I'm missing a step here with the install/config... or I dont know if there is a software upgrade for the MDA itself????

....the baystack 450s do have the latest firmware

tnx

The Baystack 100 series hubs have 10BASE-FL ports and the 400-2FX has 100Base-FX ports. These are ports are not negotiable and so only work at 10Mbps or 100Mbps. They therefore cannot be connected together. Presumabably whatever you have connected at the end of these links are also 10Base-FL and so will not connect to 100Base-FX ports on the 400-2FX.

You will need to upgrade the devices at the end of the links to 100Base-FX or go back to using the Baystack hub.

Just giving you a little more insight into the situation.. we do have a fiber distribution box that runs at 10Mbps

Just to clarify... is there a way I could hardwire the MDA down to 10Mbps so it could talk to the distribution box?..

..also I have a 1GBPC Fiber card that I was trying to use in place of the 400-2FX... it also didnt catch the link when connected...

I dont know if one or either of these solutions could be used in this situation??

As you know the Baystack 450's 24 UTP ports can be 10Mbps or 100Mbps and half or full duplex. This gives flexibility on what you can connect to it. But in the case of the 400-2FX and most other fiber interfaces the bit rate is fixed (100Mbps for the 400-2FX) and only the duplex mode can be configured.

This means that the gigabit fiber card you have (a 450-1SX?) will not connect with the fiber distribution box either. Best option may be to get a media converter and convert the 10Mbps fiber to 10Mbps UTP and connect to one of the Baystacks 450s 24 UTP ports which you can set to 10Mbps half duplex (or full if distribution box can operate at full duplex).

Hope this helps.
