Fellows,

got a tough question again:

Many of our customers are still using my old program written in VFP 3.0b. Switching them to the latest program requires not only running new installation setup on all WS but also some tables' structure conversion. WAW, it can't be done overnight.

Nevertheless, they do buy new PCs with WinNT 5 for their WS.
When runniing installation setup for that old program on these new machines, they run into something I've never seen before: VFP300.ESL error reported during the installation. The setup kit was created using built-in into VFP 3.0 Setup Wizard. This setup kit worked perfectly on WinNT 4 and Win95...WinME machines. Moreover, it works on the most of WinNT 5/2000 machines. But on some of them it still gives this error.

Have any of you ran into something like this with VFP 3.0 and setup kit on WinNT 5/2000 boxes before?

Thanks!

Regards,

Ilya

Ilya,
FWIW - For What Its Worth

Thank you, Rick! I didn't know two thirds of these abbreviations.

Ilya, I know you were hoping for something easier, but here's the full answer, if mismatched DLLs are causing this error (and this I think is the most likely cause, since it works right on some computers)

Yes, WGCS, I also suspected something along these lines. I just hoped that someone would know the way around I could explain to this customer in not-too-technical terms. You see, fellows, no company would "ship" its top S/W specialist from West to East Coast (OVV) just to reconfigure one single lousy PC at customer's (unless this customer generates at least couple dozen grand a week revenue... [smile])

I'll read the article and see what I can do.

And I will come back if/when I find the solution.

Thanks!

Ilya

Fellows:

How do I find out if a file has "Protected" status when dealing with Win2K machine? I looked up the properties of that damned VFP300.ESL and there's nothing about it. It does have different access permissions by the user type, though.

TIA

Regards,

Ilya
