Hi Everybody, I installed a new XFX Geforce 5200 256 bit card. When I boot up the machine at post my machine freezes. I cant get into the bios at all. I upgraded the bios on my MB which is a Giga-Byte GA-7N400-L. My old card works but when this new card goes in thats when my machine freezes up. I have taken my sound card out I put in new memory and nothing has helped. Any Idea's?

Make sure the new card is fully seated. Sometimes they need a good push to properly seat.

If that's ok, then try it on another system.
If the same problem happens there, then the card may be bad.

If ski's suggestions don't solve the problem, you may try this. Put the old card back in and make sure your BIOS is set to "defaults". There may be a setting in there that your new card does not like. You may even try rolling back your BIOS version and seeing if one of the earlier versions is compatible with the new card. Just because a BIOS version is newer doesn't necessarily mean it's more stable. Good luck.

Without system specs, it's a crapshoot for us.

Common problems that apply to your question are:

1. ski's suggestion that the video card is bad out of the box.

and

2. You don't have a power supply strong enough to run the new card.

It's not a driver problem or the machine would still post and you'd see problems in windows.

If you can post back basic system specs and what's written on the label on the side of your power supply, we can be of more help.

Ok Guys I tryed a New 400 Watt Power supply and that didn't work. I also put the card in a different pc and it did the same thing so its possible that it could be the card. I am sending it back to buy.com and asking for a exchange hopefully its just the card.

If thats what you've done then the card is all it could be.
My advice would also be to see if they could send you a differant brand next time just in case of incompatibility issues with that make.
