OK heres my rant!

When will Avaya make the IP Office manager a lot easier to use on the field?

What i mean is im going through an 182 user IP500 install with the users using 5410's. Default install gives the phones 3 CA. User rights will only take me so far. I can take the 3rd CA key out. and give particular hunt group members other buttons like Member pickup etc. But i still find i have to go to each user and still set things like Reserve last CA or keep on clicking no to "clear busy on held" 180 odd is a lot of "nos" to be clicking on. Ive left the busy on held on for a reason. i dont want prompting to take it off!

why cant the manager app have a windows group policy type of inteface. whereas you can set up policies based on what the group member needs and then assign users to the group. With everything done in one fell swoop!

I have a barristers office with different departments and different duties on each floor. Each floor has different pickups and HG enables. I put users in the membership of the user rights. but still have to go and edit the 20 or so users maually to put particular tick marks back in. doubling up my time.

It really annoys me when i look forward to a new release to find its hardly no different to the previous firmware/software release. come on Avaya.. how hard can it be?

Rant over... i need a drink!

Wow.. thanks

ill have a go at this. im very reluctant to import something like this on a live system though.. the slightest mistake could kill the kit.

Still begs the question. Why do we have to go round the houses for something so simple.

Stick to the fields I list and you really can't break anything. Edit anything else an you're likely to muck right up. I haven't used Manager to build a switch in 5 years.

Oh and you'll notice that all mine say "US" I'll assume that other locale will start differently. I'd love to know what a UK or other says.

If that is all
The only thing that is annoying is the busy on held
The rest is part of the job where you get your money for !

Still says US for your interest.

thanks for your help and advice here. Ill have to double check myself on each field i think!

Still a crap gui to work with dont you think?

by the way. I have my ACA - Implement. Been doing avaya for about 12 months now. Also have my MCTS In Visa configuration. What you rekon should be the salary for someone in my position should be earning. Id like a ballpark figure because i think im being ripped off by my employer! lol

ACA is worth Sh!t and so is the MCTS to be honest, it depends on the overall skills you have. there are tons of ACA's around that can barely program the voicemail password on the IPO (I know as I work with one, LOL) so I am not sure where you are but seeing the handle I would think Liverpool?
I guess some of the british mates here will be better suited to tell you how rich they are getting doing this job.
Oops sorry I forgot you can only get rich in sales but that changes at the moment too.;-)

Tell me what you are on and ill tell you if i earn more or not in london.
Although i only have avaya accreditation's. dont really get involved in anything other than telephony

Never argue with an idiot. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

I work for a small IT company who look after servers and support for about 100 different companies across the country. either on site or remotely. We took on comms stuff last year and i was basically dumped with the telephony. ranging from 2T4A right through to multi module ip500 callcentre environments. I have gone through the ACA and ACS courses on the avaya university website and even answered all the coursework for the ACE. only need to do the workshop exam for the ACE. So in all i have about 12 years experience in the IT game.
how does 16k PA sound to you?

WOW.

without wanting to digress from the point in the thread too much....

I am purely telephony. we have a huge range of clients, a lot of them are very high profile with multiple sites.

I look after everything from SCN to systems hooked up with dealerboard systems, fully stacked 412's as mentioned in another thread, right down to small salons with SOE's and 3 handsets. I am the first person to be called 99% of the time. I do a small bit of our inhouse IT but i dont get involved with IT for clients.

i earn 28k plus overtime which is set at a day rate.

I would definately have a word fella. they are taking the p***. either that or i am seriously overpaid.

That's not good really, I'm based in North East and we get £24k to £27k for just an IP Office Engineer more for doing cabling on top and Definity etc :)

cheers lads.

i knew they were taking the piss with me.

im usually working long hours and expected to even vpn into clients to do work after hours from home.

I know at the end of the day its a big responsibility and the slightest change can knock out a kit. How many of you have had your heart pumping waiting for the system monitor taking slightly longer to report back after a reboot. I deal with pretty high profile clients myself. Very highly respected in liverpool.

Theres 2 other guys in our office. who are on 10k more than me. They are MCSA's.. they went on the avaya aca course last year and can do the basics like base extension changes and vpn phones. But they keep on coming to me asking about how to upgrade/downgrade modules or how to do SIP trunking. Ive now learnt to keep my knowledge to myself but im still having to bail these guys out when they screw up a config. pisses me right off. Its me who travels all over the country installing kit.. Arguing with BT when they dont convert IDSN30 NTE boxes at the time they said they will. Its me who is diagnosing cabling faults with a basic £5 cable tester across 3 floors. If this company was a building firm they would prob give me a teaspoon to dig a trench rather than a JCB!

Shame there isnt much going on out there in the North west at the moment. Id be well out the door. Better the devil you know than the one you dont.

thanks guys.. its given me more determination to get out there and earn what i know the market is paying now.

Yeah i hate that.

Whilst financially they might be bending you over, they are clearly letting you get your hands dirty and learn stuff well.

It sounds like my first job,

i worked all hours with little to no financial reward. constantly found myself leaving site at 9PM with and hour commute home, I did all the crap with BT, dealt with all of the clients who had been sold the wrong kit, did all the travelling about. i was on 18K there simply because of my age. i was 20.

A year and half in, i got a phone call from the company i work for now. they offered me 9k more to start with. Any overtime is paid or time taken back if its only half an hour or so.

I get my hands on all the resources i need and i get into clients very early to clear up any sales mistakes before they get out of hand.

Whilst it might feel pretty sh**e at the moment, if you are good at what you do you will be alright. its just a matter of finding the right company to work for.

Are you offering a job, or just reporting an advert Cargoski?

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

To help you a bit

Import you users
Use this string as an example

name1,201,Default5610IP,name1@test.eu,100,101,102,

name1 is the name
201 is the extension
Default5610IP is a user right, if it is already programmed then the user is a memeber of it
So if you programmed the user right with 2 CA's and all other thing you like then it saves a lot of work
name1@test.eu is the voicemail to emailaddress
100,200 and 300 are group numbers
These will be made automaticly and the user is member of those groups
At the end you only need to rename those groups

Neither. Just providing a cross reference $ amount with location. Someone close to me has those credentials and draws that amount. Not exactly a burden to the economy but leveraged properly the proper credentials in the proper location can yield a comfortable level.

Of course the guy says that he gets nothing but the nut-cutter issues and his customers range between narcissist and village idiots with a sprinkling of decent folk.

I told him that I didn't know his family all had IPO's.
