Fedora 7 does not automountUSB in laptop

Hi, this is a problem I have, I think the solution is obvious but I can not find it.

I installed Fedora 7 on my laptop, these are the characteristics:
Processor Turion x2 64
1.5 Gb RAM
160 GB Hard Disk
Nvidia Graphic Card

Ok, the problem is that when I insert my USB memory, the operating system does not detect it, I have the same distro on my desktop computer and there, it does detect the USB memory, I can not find what I am missing, there would be no problem mounting it from console but in tutorials I have read they say I use /dev/sdaX, but in the installation /dev/sda is my hard disk, I tried with

insmod usb-storage

and also I have recompiled the kernel and it still does not work.

Can anyone help me?

If I was not very clear or do you need more infomation, please let me know.

Do a lsusb before and after pluggin in the device:

lsusb

Does it show up?

If your first drive is already connected (internally) via USB, the second drive will be /dev/sdb - not sda.

Hi, Thanks for your advices but this is what happened

when enter lsusb this appears:

and if I give ls /dev/sd*, this is my result

/dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sda4 /dev/sda5

all them from my hard disk partitions

What can I do next?

Thanks. I was hoping fdisk -l would show your USB device, but apparently, the device is not seen.

Check your laptop's BIOS settings. The USB may be disabled. If so, change the setting to enable it.

I suppose we can not see the usb because of when I insert my usb memory, the led does not turn on.

unfortunately my laptop is HP, so its BIOS is very simple and does not have many options.

I am triying recompiling the newest kernel, I hope this can help me, besides I am checking all options one by one, maybe I was missing something last time.

I am working hard on this because is very frustrating to burn a CD-RW or a DVD-RW every time I need to move files.


I will let you if this solve my problem.
