Hello:

I use fdisk to create (n to create; w to write table to disk) a new partiton. But the newly create partition does not show on file /proc/partitions until reboot.

Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Command
# parted mkpart
create partition and update /proc/partitions file.
Thanks.

Background: partition numbers 1 through 4 are referred to as primary partitions. Partitions 5 through 20 are referred to as secondary partitions. A primary partition is used to create the secondary partitions (ie just subdividing one of the primary partitions).

More background: the linux kernel can re-read the partition table when you change a primary partition. The linux kernel cannot re-read the partition table when you add/change/delete a secondary partition.

You probably created or changed one of the secondary partitions. It won't show up until the kernel is restarted (ie a reboot).
