Hi,

I'm using SAM to automate backup for my HP system. My questions are.

1) How can we sure the backup is successfull?
2.)How do we check the display the tape contain after fbackup?
3.) I have a autoloader install on my HP UX, can I set a command to change the tape once the 1st tape is full? If not, any recommend backup solution? Thanks !

KC

KC, although I am newbie to HP-UX I have inherited mgmt of the backups for one of our boxes. We use Omniback which if I am not mistaken comes as part of maintenance software releases for HP-UX. It seems pretty forward in terms of navigation although I never had to install it. Have you considered using this or any third party backup sol'n

1) I believe that the SAM backup log is
/var/sam/log/br_log
2) To check the tape for the header use
frecover -V /tmp/volumefile -f /dev/whatever your device is
To check what was backed up on the tape
frecover -I /tmp/indexfile -f /dev/whatever your device is
Although the most correct way to validate a tape is with a non-write, read using the -N switch
3) I'm not sure but possible perhaps using fbackup from cron in a script.
