Ok I am scratching my brain on this one. There are two fax machines on different analog cards that take the first page and then just hang. I can get fax tone from a regular phone in the office, and I have run a trace on the extensions and it does go through ARS and seize a trunk member on the right trunk group. They say other offices can fax to the particular number, it seems to be just this office. The only error we get on the fax display is tx/r 44422 ecm tx error????? Any ideas.

You say other offices can send to the same number, but you don't indicate if they're on the same PBX. Are your trunks T1 trunks? If they are, have you confirmed the timing source for the T1's?

Check for sync and timing errors. Had this same problem but to compound it we had a ATM WSP. Found a bad tone clock. Your errors may show a TDM-bus error. fixed this then the problem came back. Found out the sync board on the ATM was bad as well.

Voice can tolerate sync errors where fax and data cannot.

g3rguy, you know you might be right.........we have had some fiber errors, and bus errors in the past couple of days. Avaya wants to just replace the boards and fiber between the cabinets, but maybe its a bad tone clock or sync board??

Yep that was what they did for me as well, never cleared the TDM-Bus errors or sync errors. Only after replacing the tone-clk and the Sync board on the ATM did the problem resolve. Let me know how it works out for you.

g3rguy,

What other symptoms did you see with your packet bus issues? We are also ATM with a WSP, we have EPNs and our WSP in another state and the PPN and several EPNs in our home office.

I am currently showing 2 failed links on my packet bus. In June, I had digital boards resetting and dropping stations. We found that one of our MAP/D boards was throwing all kinds of errors and they matched up exactly with the errors on our digital line packs. We rerouted CTI connectivity through another MAP/D and removed the board in question. The symptoms stopped, but the packet bus failed links remained. Yesterday we dropped all of my ISDN D-Channels. We discovered a ton of host adapter errors on one the active SPE. I interchanged SPEs and the host adapter errors did not follow to the other SPE. I would say that we have a bad UN332 MSS board, but we just replaced them the week before to bring our switch to matching vintages. Perhaps we got a bad card from Avaya, but I am skeptical.

Something is wrong in my switch. If I am seeing host adapter problems and packet bus failed links that follow my SPE interchange, something somewhere is causing a problem. We are going to be updating the firmware on our TN2305s this week so they are all on the same versions. Currently they are all on one vintage, except for one board that we installed recently with a new port network. Usually mismatched vintages of ATM-PNC EI boards will cause ATM cell over runs and under runs, but I don't think that would cause a packet bus problem.

Look on the back of your ATM at the blade. There should be a green light. Is that flashing real fast. That was what Avaya kept missing. If you reboot the atm it will sync up for a short period of time. The Blade was bad on our ATM and kept causing those errors.

I checked on the back of our Cajun ATM switch, and both the A & B sync lights were solid green.

Ok then you ATM sync is good. Mis matched pnc firmware can cause that problem so if after they change out the chips you still have the errors, tone boards would be the next option. Check the HW versions of all of those they should at least be V 2.
