Hi,

I know that Windows 2000 supports Fax Modems and allows you to fax using a fax printer driver. Does Windows XP? I have a remote sales person who is telling me he can not fax. He want me to purchase and install WinFax. Does XP support faxmodems and install the software also is it worth purchasing WinFax. In the office we use FaxPress 6.x from Castelle a fax server. Does anyone know this software and will this work for the remote user as well. Any info would be great.

Thanks
Rich

At least XP Pro comes with a fax component, but I believe it's not installed by default.

The cheap solution oit to use the default MS fax bundeled with XP and source a cheap modem.

Approx two mins to set up and very reliable. Ideal for a stand alone fax solution

Rich --

The WinXP Fax service should install once a fax capable modem is installed.
I've done some work with Castelle FaxPress 6.3SP2 and the Exchange Add-In client. If you are using Exchange, and if your remote user has access to corporate email then the Castelle Exchange Add-In should work for him also.

Please note that it is vital that the Add-In (called FaxPress Exchange Direct in the services dialogue) is added to the Outlook services before the standard (email related services) are added, otherwise fax functionality will not work correctly.
Also note that more than 11 or so email attachments for faxing is not recommended with Castelle (you start to lose attachments during the parsing / faxing process).

If you have any questions on the above / Castelle post back and I'll do my best to assist.

Thanks All,

Tazuk we too are using Castelle FaxPress 6.3SP2. However, our e-mail client is Lotus Notes Domino 6. What I am really looking for is the remote user is in Sales and is on the road and needs to fax from time to time at the hotels. Would Faxmain still work since the Fax server is back at the Office? Would he have to be set them up with a dial-up account and access through the firewall to be able to use the server to send faxes? or do I need to set it up to use the fax line provided at the hotel? Like I said I think the Windows base fax will work but I would really like to use FaxPress. We just started using it and am still learning all it capabilities.

Did the package you purchased from Castelle not include the Lotus Notes Gateway(
As for FaxMain, I've not really done much experimentation with it I'm afraid. However I would imagine that once the user can see your network, FaxMain would function as normal. I'm afraid I've had no experience in this approach though [smile]

My experience with Castelle has mostly been in the area of automated bulk faxing, using VB and the Exchange Add-In service.
