Hello all,

We have one client that has 6 locations all having 500 V2. Some are reporting faxing problems, only receiving half pages etc. some are reporting static on the lines and spoken words being dropped. All sites have cable modems 75X25.

SIP trunks are provided by Megapath.

They are running
Location 1: V8.0 (42) faxing issues and voice issues
Location 2: v8.0 (43) (definite internet issues)
Location 3: v8.0 (43) Not complaining, at least not to me
Location 4: v8.0 (46) Not complaining, at least not to me
Location 5: v8.0 (53) faxing issues and voice issues
Location 6: v8.1 (43) faxing issues and voice issues

All systems are configured the same, (G711 Fax, Bearer Capability: ANY, Equipment Classification: Fax Machine, Re-invite Supported, Use Offerer's Preferred Codec)

Combo Card, Digital Station 8.

So, my question is, what version should I set all the IPO to, to further trouble shoot the issues? Does anyone have any questions or suggestions?

Thanks again,

Mike

Just an update.

We called location 4 and they said they have no problems at all. They get large faxes and no call quality issues. They did say, however, the phone cord wraps a lot and pulls the phone off the table when they pick up the headset, but I think I can even handle that problem.

Mike

Sounds like you have network issue.. Version of software does not cause static or half pages.

I would start with your network support team.

Typically when you have SIP trunks and faxing...
On your fax machine
Turn off ECM and reduce the baud rate to 9600 (or lower)

Are you sending faxes over the SCN?

What I did for faxing, as we have a customer with sip extensions to a fax machine was use a patton-ata.

The extension is built as a regular sip extension. Nothing special. No fax settings.

Always works. The settings in the ata are 9600,8,N,1 and I have no problems.

regards

Sorry for the late response, fires everywhere!

No QOS is done at any location, I will look into getting this setup.

I will have someone look at the fax machines too. They are currently not faxing over the SCN, but that is something they will be doing in the future.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I am thinking that the internet connections is to blame, but want to rule out the IPO first.

Thanks again,

Mike

patton-ata? I will look into that. Thank you azrael2000

Nope, no network assessment. I was told to install, make it work then leave.. I told them I would be happy to look at their network before, during, and even now. I think they just have crappy internet at those troublesome locations. Oddly enough (yeah right), their VPN and internet connection drops too. But it's the IPO's fault. Just thought I might be missing something like a bad version. I have read where someone downgrade from 8.0.42 to 8.0.18 and SIP faxing worked a lot better.
