I'm looking to implement a fax service. Every employee in the company wants their own fax number of course... Has anyone found a way to redirect faxes sent to normal extensions with DID signaling or something that would tell the fax server what number was called as well as or instead of the number calling?

G3 CM1.3

I haven't bought any hardware yet, so if you have suggestions...shoot!

We just implemented such a device. It's a RightFax server. Integrates with Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange. Faxes to a personal fax number are delivered to a persons email.

You can also send faxes from a desktop through the server. You basically pretend the fax server is a printer and direct your printouts to a specific fax number. When you print your document, it gets delivered to a distant fax machine.

They're pricy, but depending on the incoming/outgoing traffic you won't need to activate an entire fax card full of ports. We did 6 ports. and it came to a little over $20,000 US. The biggest part of the cost is licensing the simultaneous port usage.

This post should not be construed as an endoresement of Rightfax or it's products or services. It's just what we bought.

I implemented Fax to email using my Intuity Audix R5.1. We set up seperate DID's for fax numbers. I haven't found the device that will auto detect a fax versus a voice call. There are a few ways to implement fax to the desktop. Look at Message Manager by Avaya, the Intuity and third party servers. The only thing I did not included in the fax service was Sending faxes from your desktop. We just have fax "stations" for outgoing. We went from 40 fax machines to 8....the fallout...people save their faxes on ther computers FOREVER. Did I mention FOREVER. The same goes for voicemails.

In the future everything will work...

NXO1, do you run into problems with your users staying logged into message manager and as a result tying up vmail ports?

Just because u are logged into message manager doesn't mean u tie up a voice mail port. The port is only used when a voice connection is used.

Da-vi'do

P.S. A message to all,if you want to get the best response to a question, please read FAQ222-2244 first. Also give the type & version of your voice mail & pbx system & preview your post to make sure it is complete & understandable. Be aware that if u don't answer a question, I usually will not continue to help u.

We don't use message manager. We use Outlook that treats it like a Internet Mailbox. (Pop3)

In the future everything will work...

Your port limit is based soley on the number of actual voice calls ringing into the VM. is has nothing to do with message manager or the intuity acting as a pop3 server. In other words it a user cannot remain on a voicemail port unless they are constantly replaying there voicemail boxes through the telephone.
