Hi all,
I have a customer who wants a fax server installed. This server will receive a fax and email it out to people. The Company who is going to put it in says they need an VOIP line. Analog lines will not work. Any suggestions on how to get the fax server to work on an ip office 412 at 4.2 (20)? Do I need any kind of software or license to make this work? Thanks

What kind of VoIP line do they want? Are they are expecting SIP or H.323?

And sip trunk/user licenses.

Thanks for the replies. I will check to see if it is SIP or H.323. I will post more detail later. Thanks

We have only SIP trunks from an ITSP (SIP over the Internet vai a DSL line). Our faxing is via a Multitech FaxFinder set to 7200bps with ECC turned on and it workes quite well.

Hi all,
This needs to be set up as H.323. They have VCM installed already and a few ip phones. What do I need and how do I program this kind of set up? Any step by step instructions would be great. Thanks

Which is more cost efective?
• Traditional PSTN/PBX-based fax server
software that requires fax boards;
Or
• T.38 or T.37 IP fax or FoIP technology
(boarded or boardless) for VoIP/IP
PBX-based infrastructures

Does the ip office support T.38?
Thanks

The doz, yes the ipo does support T.38 for sip extensions.

Thanks for all the respones.
The cheapest way will be to set this up as SIP. Their fax sever is a Boardless T.38 multi-tenant Fax Over IP Sever.
I will have to buy some SIP license. The Fax sever will have to be a SIP endpoint. They have a PRI fax number which will route to an ip line.
Can someone get me started in the right direction? Thanks

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

You are right.
Did not see the 4.2 but you can upgrade it for free :)

If you open to other solutions, the Multitech Faxfinder is pretty inexpensive, easy to setup, and works great. I'd certainly look at it before buying something. Of course if the customer called and said I just bought this fax server and I need you to make it work...

T.38 requires IP500 on VCM32/64 cards - Tech Bulletin no. 109, page 31.

You are right.
I am getting too much used to IP500 only i guess :)

Thank you all for this valuable information. It is a ip 412 at 4.2 (20). It looks like the Fax sever provider needs to in stall an analog card in there fax server and I will route their fax number to a hunt group then ring to their fax ports.
