Can you make it so you don't hear the voicemail on the express messaging port? it seems to screw with the G3 faxes .... I tried 4 different fax machines to fax in, and only older, non-g3's wanted to send ... any thoughts?

On the BCM 50 or BCM 4.0, you can select "fax only" from the mailbox options (if you have the fax keycode on the system). On BCM 3.5 through 3.7, it takes a call to Nortel to have them get into the backend of the voicemail and manually configure the lines as fax only.

Me being an end user, I doubt nortel will talk to me.

You can have your vendor open the case for you - it doesn't take them very long to do. They will need remote access to the system.

Here is what I got from our Nortel Techs:

Instructions to turn the "Fax Only Express Messaging Line" feature on:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a particular mailbox needs to use its express messaging line to receive fax only, you can to set it so that when calling the line, a fax calling tone is heard as soon as the line is answered. This is provided to deal with the fact that some fax machines will hang up if they detect anything other than a fax tone.

To turn this feature on, follow the steps below:

1) On the BCM, open a command prompt. (Start, Programs, Accessories, CommandPrompt).

2) At the prompt, enter "f:" to change to the drive where NvmUtil.exe is located.

3) Type "cd \program files\nortel networks\voicemail" to change to the directory where NvmUtil.exe is located

4) Type "NVMUtil flashtlk". You will be presented with a set of commands available through NVMUtil (see below)

How To Test CR Q00877810-02

Using CallPilot Manager, add an express messaging line to a mailbox.
In Unified Manager change the Prime Set DN for the line to be your Voicemail DN (Use F985 to find your VM DN), also ensure that this line is not set to appear, or ring on any sets.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With fax messaging NOT available:

1) From an external phone, call the express messaging line and verify that you hear the mailbox greeting.

2) On the BCM, open a command prompt. (Start, Programs, Accessories, CommandPrompt). Enter "f:" to change to the drive where NvmUtil.exe is located. Type "cd \program files\nortel networks\voicemail" to change to the

System Automatic Reboot: Yes

what if the express messaging line for fax and the indidual's voicemail share the same mailbox?

As long as you have fax capabilities the extension will perform both voicemail and fax answering.
After the voicemail greeting there is a message that tells a fax to "transmit now". The fax you are using to send must be able to pause long enough to get through the messages.
I did not set the "fax only" option.
Thanks
Larry
