Hi, i need advice in regards to fax over ip.

current setup:-
lx controller 512mb on software 7.1.4.9
connected within a lan via fibre to an mxe controller software 8.0.11.7

Faxes connected via asu on lx controller.
Mxe has the trunk connected for outgoing calls.

All calls route over the IP trunks from the LX controller to the mxe and break out over the ISDN30.
Faxes fail to send when routing from the lx over the ip trunks to the mxe to then break out over the isdn30.

I cant relocate the asu onto the MXE as its in a different location in the building connected via fibre and theres no structured cabling.

How can I resolve this, is the only option to upgrade to rel 9, install 2 x dsp2s and use t.38.

or is there a clever device out there such as this that would resolve the issue?

see in other threads faxes can be sent using t.30 - uncompressed. how is this configured.

this ones really confusing me so id appreciate any advice
thanks

That device would only help if the issue is with the LX, or you'd need 2 of them. There were changes in release 8 that fixed some fax problems but probably caused some on other systems (it depends a lot on the fax machines involved). The 3300's detect the CNG or CED tone and disable the echo cancellers and do some other things on the IP side.

If possible, try a couple different fax machines on the LX, or see if you can modify the settings on it to disable CNG. Might help.

how do you program fax over ip re release 9??
does / should it just work?? or are there any specific programming requirments??

There are hardware requirements (DSP 2 cards), but other than that it should work. There are some things that you may need to do with zones, but those are (I think) deployment specific options.

II have had some success by creating uncompressed routes for faxing. A COR for access to the uncompressed routes applied to the FAX extensions is required.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

The release notes for Rel. 9.0 have detailed instructions on how to program fax lines to use T.38.

You might try upgrading your LX to at least 8.0. When I upgraded to 7.1 4.9 I had lots of failed faxes. When I upgaded to 8.0 fax machines started working a lot better.
