I have a 016ETR card that I want to add a fax and regular home cordless phone. I believe I need to change the boart type to a T/R port? How do I change one of the ports to work for a fax?

Thanks!

Correct about needing to configure a port on the ETR module as T/R. Will the fax machine have its own dedicated telephone line, or will it be sharing a line with voice traffic?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Yes, it will be a dedicated line for this fax.

Thanks,

Jeff

If the fax machine will have its own dedicated phone line, I would just leave the line off the phone system and cross connect the CO line to the fax line directly.

...sometimes things are too simple. What about setting up a cordless phone on the system?

Sadly there are not many options for a cordless phone that will work with a legend systems. Othere then the Transtalk that cost around $1000.00. Wish it was simple as plugging into a analog port, but not that easy :(

It depends.

If you are looking to connect a simple cordless telephone to the system to send and receive calls and not much else, you can connect to a T/R port on the ETR module and assign the desired telephone line to the port. Caller ID and some other system features will not be available.

If you want to be able to access system features, then you will be looking at the discontinued Transtalk or the current 3910. The 3910 would connect to a port configured as ETR.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Unfortunately - the "new" 3910 portable is a piece of pure "junk" (with poor voice quality, very limited range, and limited capability) - so if you want a "real" multiline portable - get a Transtalk 9040 - it's worth the extra cost.

If a cheapie portable will do - then any $10 portable phone from K-Mart or wherever will work just fine - but with limited range - and as Dexman pointed out - no caller ID capability. It will probably work no worse than a 3910 - and maybe even better - at a fraction of the cost. To use such a cheapie - you would need to reconfigure an ETR port as T/R.

If I were to give it a shot, how do I change the port to a T/R?

The top 6 ports on the ETR module can be programmed as either ETR or T/R.

To change the programming - get into WinSPM - press system program, start/exit, extentions, more, more, ETR, keyin the ext number for the top port (or one of the top 6) and press enter - then highlight either ETR or T/R and press enter.

The system must be "idle" in order to change the port from ETR to T/R as well.
