I have site that seems to always have fax transmission problems. It is a CS1000E with release 5.0 software ( IPMG ). It has the latest loadware patch's as well as the latest Call server patch's. The fax TN's are in different cabinets. Many outbound fax's will fail and get transmissions errors, as well as inbound fax's. The T1's are fine and no complaints on regular calls.

DamovoCH I honestly have never heard of that option in the COS. It's obvious what it means though. This switch was upgraded from a TDM Release 25 switch and never had that option. I will try changing them and hope that does it ! Thank you !

We also have a CS1000e but on release 5.5 and have transmission issues with faxes. Primarily from fax servers, which always have problems, but from fax machines as well. When a fax is able to be received at all, we only get 1 page and then it seems to time out. We have 14 different fax machines, all from various manufacturers. We set FAXA in the class of service and that doesn't seem to help. We put one fax on a 1fb and had not receiving issues. Any other thoughts? I'm to the point that we're going to purchase 1fb's for all faxes, but that can get pricey. We also considered carrier issues because we're on a VoIP switch from the carrier. In our main hospital, we're with another LEC, with over 200 faxes with no problems.

I've had the same issue at a site that was upgraded from a OPT11c @ rel. 23.55.

I moved 2 alarm lines, and a fax to another card in a different cabinet.(IPMG 0 0) No problems since.

Not sure why other than the PRI is in IPMG 0 0. I didn't think this should matter.

Please post your findings,
Jeff

Hi at all,
We also experienced the same issues, in my opinion it is depending where the trunks and the analog lines are located, if the analog lines and the Trunks are at the same MGC you will have no Problems, as soon as you need DSP resources the problems will come up.

In release 5.5, Nortel introduced a new feature, Modem and Fax pass through,

Class of Service (MPTA/MPTD) identifies the DN as a Modem or Fax to the CS1000
voice network in LD10

This should solve your problems

regards
Fritz

We set MPTA and FAXA and the incoming problem was corrected, however, now no one can make any outbound faxes, so we had to change them all back. My vendor has been extremely slow to respond to this issue. I even brought in our LEC to test our PRI's to confirm that we weren't having any carrier issues, as equipment vendors are apt to blame issues on the carrier.

You should also check to see what codec you are using between the IPMG that houses the analog line card, and the IPMG that houses the PRI.

In my experience, you will get the best results using the Best Quality bandwidth option along with the G.711 codec. Anything less and you will start seeing transmission problems.
