Hi Folks,

I have a customer that wants to share Line 2 on his CICS with his fax machine. How do I program the Fax DN to filter out fax calls? Customer would like the fax to answer if it is a fax, and to ring on all phones if not...I have the fax machine on the IATA, assigned it as Fax DN, but it doesn't filter the calls. All phones still ring whether it is a fax or normal call...

Thanks! AJ

the fax detect is used with the on board auto attendant or ccr

if you are not using them (at least on the fax line) it will not work

That's what I thought...but will the Auto Attendant or CCR answer with a greeting? The customer wants this to be invisible to both customer and caller. In other words, if a fax comes in, the system knows to route it to the ATA. If a regular call comes in, the system just rings like a normal line on all phones. Will Auto Attendant or CCR with Fax DN work in this way? Thanks!

I find that the Stick -or- Ultracom will help in this situation...

These line sharing devices are connected just after the demarcation of the analog telephone trunks...
-> the trunk is connected to the stick/ultracom which has fax detection
-> if no fax is detected it sends the live phone line to the phone port that is connected to the CICs.

Customer still can pick up line 2 to dialout, but incoming numbers will be screened by the line sharing device, ans is directed accordingly.

to answer you question above yes it will answer with a greeting , no way around it
ynotphones's idea of the stick (or line sharing device) may be the best course for your customer , the only thing is you will not see that the line is in use on the phones (because the fax part will not be of the system) if they are using line pools make sure the fax line is not in one or else if the fax is in use and they dial 9 (or pool code you use)they may get the line sharing device's busy signal

I havnt put one in but I thot there was a keycode to open the fax switch in the CICS. Just use a stick as mentioned above its simpler.
