As of this morning, whenever the phone rings, the Fax console kicks in automatically and tries to answer the call. So now, I have to switch off the computer to answer a simple phone call. It never happened before.

Is there any way of disabling this from happening?

I have done a keyword search, but did not find a solution.

Regards.

You can buy a simple device from an electronics supply store to solve this problem. It looks like an RJ11 duplex plug, but one outlet is marked "Fax" and the other "Voice" or "Phone". There is a circuit inside which disables the "Fax" side whenever the other side is in use. It costs about $5.00.

Open the fax console program, under tools, configure fax and either increase amount of rings or make it manual answer.

Fax console is in All programs/accessories/communications.

My fax is already on manual answer. I don't know why it is kicking-in automatically. It should not kick-in automatically, if it is on manual answer.

That would have been the way to go. But I have disabled system restore on my computer, under advice from my IT Guy.

Anyway, I have increased the number of rings to 40, so now the fax does not cut in automatically.
