Customer wants to use a POTS line on a Partner(w/some kind of VM, to be determined)as a Fax line/Backdoor to VM for employees. In four years, I have tried to set up this scenario about three times, but I have never gotten it to work correctly. Is there a trick here that I am not aware of?
The sale my depend on the outcome of this. Thank you.

i always use the stick by multilink for this type of thing.

you have three ports the first is defualt normlay voice , the second two asre accsed with a *2 or *3

very dependable. your cost should be around 100.00

i should have added that by defualt the second port is switched by cng tone

so normal voice call goes to the vm port one cng to port two where you have the fax hooked in

and if you needed the third port for a modem or something else a *3 would switch to it

I used fax detect on my Partner Messaging R1 with pretty good results - probably got 80 - 90% of faxes successfully - i just followed instructions in manual but used the voice mail fax detect not the partner acs - make sure you don't have both active or you will have troubles.

I ususally just program the line to only ring at the fax ext. Saves headaches..

Hi FoneDude66,
I have set up lots of systems using the CNG detect on the Partner. Never once had a problem. I use the same setup at home, with different vm types. No sweat. The ACS "pulls" the call from the attendant and routes it to the fax extension.

What "senses" the cng tones? The voice mail or the ACS?

Hi Mongo,
The ACS has to keep an "ear" out I guess. The CNG detection occurs in the ACS during the attendant greeting. Maybey if you whistle just right ...
