I was using synchback and I wanted to experiment with some other free (as in free beer) backup programs because apparently the free version of sync back does not do incremental backups very well.

Can you recommend a backup program where I can do daily incrementals and weekly full backups to my local USB hard drive.

I'm afraid that if I use syncback's implementation of backup everyday and I edit a file on Tuesday and again on Wednesday and on thursday I decide I want Tuesday's version, I would be out of luck. Is that true with the free version?

What is your favorite backup program that does incrementals?

I like drop box but I don't trust it. It does versioning and synchronization (some times) and I want to redundantly backup that directory to my USB drive.

Thanks
Siegfried

I dropped SyncBack some time ago. I use Cobian Backup. I really like it.

In addition to looking at backup programs, you might also consider file versioning storage. Instead of waiting for a scheduled backup process, your file is saved redundantly to your local drive and to the versioned remote storage. Sites like dropbox.com offer this. Alternatives to DropBox are also being developed so that you can set up your own service.

Does Cobain Backup do incrementals as well as directory synchronization?
What about the backup utility that comes with windows 7? Does that work very well?

I would like a free Exchange and SQL backup too please :)

Yes. You can do Full, Incremental, or Differential backups as well as mirrors. See this tutorial for more info.

I actually use both. I like the Win7 to create a compressed mirror of my drive. IMHO, with Cobian, you can copy all your files to a backup device and then be able to see and access those files much easier that I can with the Win7 backup.
