I have a HP DL380 G4 server, and I am plan to install netware 5.1 product to this server, but I got the error message "Fatal Hub Link Error" prompt before mounting volume. I can't found any information related to this error message from internet. Is any know what is the meaning of this error message?

Many Thanks.

This may be related to a network error rather than NetWare or any volume error. Try unplugging the server from your network and see if you get the error then? If you don't, your network connection/port is probably at fault.

because our NDS version in network is 7.62c, I need to install NW with SP5 overlay CD, I tested install netware 51 with SP8/SP7, but no option for NDS7 avaiable for selection.

Is any other option to install SP8 with NDS8, then downgrade to NDS7?

Downgrading NDS is not a good thing to do. I mean, yeah it could be done. But it's not easy and I'm not going to be the one to recommend it. NDS 7 and NDS 8 are completely different database formats, it's not just a matter of NLM's.

If it was me, I wouldn't have any problem installing NDS8 on the server. As long as your tree is healthy, having 2 versions of NDS is fine. Just make sure you put the latest NDS 8 code on there. Better yet, upgrade all of your servers to eDir 8.7.3. (edir 8.7.x is not the same as NDS 8).

Yes I agree, but we don't have option, because some of servers in this tree are locate in difference countries, so that is not easy to upgrade all NDS to 8 inside this tree.

Finially I found if I disable the USB device in the server, the error message disappear. Also I can complete the installation without error. Funny???

Anyway, thanks for your advice - marvhuffaker.

Try disabling the USB ports or make sure the NIC is not sharing a IRQ with the USB Ports. I was booting into dos and loading Portlock, and getting this everytime, disabled USB and works like a charm...

This post was an excellent help as I have the same scenario and I have been tearing my hair out until I found this. However, after disabling the USB Ports I can get a few screens into the installation before the Server halts at the (nearly blank) storage device driver page. Any ideas?????

Same situ as the other guy.
Need a NDS7.61 Server not 8 so can't use overlay cos of that.
Booting with SS7.30 and then using original NW51 disc.

Gets most of the way through now but is seeking files off cd that don't exist. This complication may be caused by SS7.30 etc.

Clueless!! Don't want to have to go to NDS8 but may be only option :(

Personally I would have no problem installing NDS 8 into a tree with NDS 7. In fact, long term, that is probably the direction you want to head. There shouldn't be any problems with the two coexisting as long as you have the latest patches for both. I believe that for 7 it's DS 7.62C (last time I checked)
