Hope not to be off-topic,
I'm looking for a free downloadable application which could handle a fat corruption problem.
thanks

antonio

well have you tried Scandisk that comes with microsoft, as far as partition utilities I would recomend Partition Magic, however that is not "Free" try downloads.com tucows.com shareware.com, or even powerquest.com (to try a trial version to just get the job fixeD) it depends on what you did to your partition, that'll determine if a simple scanner can fix, or if you need something stronger, or if you cant recover at all.

try telling us the problem, and maybe rather than pointing you to software, we may be able to point you to the solutions.

No, I stopped before turning to Scandisk because I fear it's going to resolve the problem erasing the corrupted data. The Fat is severy wounded, since it reports wrong files size and some files have names whith random characters and some files actually point to the wrong data (e.g. you open a "file.doc" and you discover is an xls file).
Partition magic refuse to operated and just report the fat corruption. I found recover 98 which seems great, but the trial version just let you check what is recoverable but doesn't allow to recover anything.
That's all.
Thanks
Antonio
