Hi ,

i've got a fastT200 in direct attachement to a 6h0 with two controlers to access the fastT .

I create a new array and i configure it to have controler A as prefered controler.

but a few minutes after i've got an alert on the fastT200 saying : logical drive not on preferred controler.

on the server Errpt report that "array configuration changed" , the identifier is C86ACB7E hardware , informational.

on controler A, i have an array of 6 disk
on controler B, i have two arrays of 4 disk + the new one of 2 disk.

Is it possible that the fast try to loadbalanced ther charge on controler and so force me to put my new array on controler B ?

What else can i check ?

thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I have found that the FAStT storage subsystems under AIX suck. To put it bluntly. I have over 32 Drawers of the stuff (900's) and dread each and every failure. Not sure why yours is doing the prefered controller switching. Mine was doing the same thing for a while then seemed to correct itself when we applied the newest rdac drivers.

I am also running all the servers through brocade switches, so my set up is different than what you have. When you find out why yours is acting up post the fix. I wouldn't mind hearing why.

I never have felt comfortable that my problem was truly fixed. It just went away for now.

I have configured a Fastt600 under AIX 5.2 and so far have had no problems with it. I followed the documenation and configured one array which appears as one large disk in AIX.

Did you configure both raid cards in the fastt with an out of band (null modem) cable and then connect with the SMClient to configure the fastt?

Have you configured the AIX host group in the fastt and added the world wide names of the controllers?

Also what version/maintenance level of AIX are you running?

Have you checked for the latest rdac drivers in the driver matrix?

Basically I followed every step in the document and everything so far seems fine.

i will check for drivers up to date , but as it works well since one year and no updates i've been done on the system it is surprising.

thanks for the answers.

As long as we used one FastT700 with our AIX-machines,
everything worked well.

When we got a second Fastt900, a lot of surprising things
happened. Installing the latest rdac-drivers and
updating of the microcode within the FC-cards (AIX) resolved
the problem.

IMPORTANT for brocade-switch users:

FabricOS before 4.1.1e has a wonderful error.
If you poweroff your brocade-switches and you Fastt(s)
and then repoweron, no attached server (AIX, Windows)
will find the mapped drives!

You look into the switch(es) (via browser) and think
that everything is OK. But: the configuration of the
switch is not really active. You have to activate the
configuration, before you poweron the attached servers.

We needed two weekends to identify this error.
After we updated to FabricOS 4.4.1e everything works
fine.

regards
Rudi
