Have you ever used or heard anyone using 'Fastidiousness'?
Is there shorter version more used? Thanks

Shortest word I can think of that's close would be 'anal'. "He's really anal about it".

But perhaps 'fussy' will do (vaguely similar) or maybe 'particular'.

That doesn't mean it isn't OCD.

The compulsions one feels as a result of OCD are not necessarily - heck, rarely - logical.

Do you watch Monk on the USA network? He plays a character with obvious OCD. That might help with explaining it.

OCD and taking food from someone else's plate could be something like they can only take food from the person to their right, or from a woman, or from the person to their right only if they are a woman and their name begins with an L.

As Anotherhiggins pointed out OCD may have no concieveble bearing on reality, or it might be an over-reaction to everyday things. Something like having to wash your hands after you touch a doorknob beause you read that 70% of the baterica and viruses you pick up are from doorknobs/doorhandles.

Sad to say, present-day useage seems to have replaced "fastidiousness" with "finickiness.

For me, fastidious has always included a sense of a person's being fussily exacting, particularly about his/her appearance or environment. But to describe someone who won't touch a doorknob because of germs, I would use the term squeamish.

According to yourdictionary.com's etymology for the word, fastidious includes the idea of squeamishness:

[Middle English, squeamish, particular, haughty, from Old French [tt]fastidieux[/tt], from Latin [tt]fasitidisus[/tt], from [tt]fasitidium[/tt], squeamishness, haughtiness, probably from [tt]fastus[/tt], disdain.]

I like the sound of fastidiosity. I find it easier to pronounce than fastidiousness.
