Have you ever used or heard anyone using 'Fastidiousness'?
Is there shorter version more used? Thanks

Fastidious could replace it I think, since the 'ness seems something of a superfluousness to me.

I want to be good, is that not enough?

[tongue in cheek] OCD [/tongue in cheek]

Now wash your mouth out with soap (500 times) RCorrigan!

OK, we are heading in wrong direction I belive.
I was looking for the word to describe a behaviour when some people would not eat in public places because they do not know where these dishes or food had been.
Will not touch a door knob without a paper because others touched it.
It is like a excessive grossing out about things, over- neatness. Those people can be slobs btw but will never drink from a bottle people drank from not even if dying from thirst. I think Seinfeld in his show is kind of like this type of guy...

'Fastidiousness' the word I found but there should be another one for this.

Fastidious is an adjective. Fastidiousness is the derived noun form.

Example: Rod is fastidious. It's Rod's fastidiousness that drove him to make this post. :)

My Powerbook's thesarus does not list any synonyms for fastidious or fastidiousness. I can't think of any replacements that are shorter, but "extreme attention to detail" or "obsession with cleanliness" (depending on the sense of the word you're replacing) might be understood by more readers.

Sure. It's a perfectly good word.

>the 'ness seems something of a superfluousness to me
First, LOL - I like the superfluousness

But fastidiousness is a different word. Fastidious is an adjective (used to describe someone), whereas Fastidiousness is a noun.

Rod, ya beat me

Ladyazh: I think the word (neologism?) you are looking for is germaphobe.

I know, John. but it is Friday afternoon for all that. Have a good weekend folks!

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Germaphobe is good but sometimes it is not about germs but like I will try food from your plate but not from that other person's because I am fastidious about him?
Is this how it suppose to be used?

I don't think fastidious is the right word in this case, because fastidious means to attention to detail. Yes it can mean careful, but not in a fearful sense, rather in a meticulous sense.

I also agree that germaphobe doesn't really work either because of the selectiveness. Maybe 'choosy' would work.

Analysis without the 'ysis' might be another, more slang, term that could be used...

If the link does not redirect, go to Wiki home page, search OCD or Obsessive and it should redirect to the correct page !!!

If not, wipe your keyboard in an anticlockwise direction, 14 times, while repeating the Mantra "OCD is Good", then wash your hands in water of exactly 14 degrees 7 times, and not forgetting your nails (4 strokes each nail, 13 cycles and rinse), finally change the mongrammed handkerchief that you sit on (changed 28 times daily - never reused) and try the link again.

If that doesn't work, have a Bushmills on me [cheers]

The current PSA for flu prevention in Oklahoma encourages kids to "wash your hands as many times a day as possible".

I think it's a plot to flush out the OCDs at a younger age.
