Can someone please confirm that this is a hardware problem.

I cannot ping the interface locally. The weird thing is that I can ping it remotely. Does someone have an explanation for that.

test interface fast 0
... Failed - timeout problem
1 interfaces: 0 passed, 1 failed, 0 skipped, 0 untestable

I tried the ping command without success which led me to issue the test command.

Are you trying it from the console interface. I would think that from the console you should be able to ping any of the ports on the router. I could see if you were comming in on another interface, you might not be able to ping a certian port... but other wise?????

Sounds like either an access-list or routing issue. Have your tried using an extended ping locally? Try that and see what happens.

Also try a traceroute and see where it is dying.
