What is the fastest socket 478 pentium 4 processor that will be happy in an ASUS P4 S 533-E motherboard? Would the PSU ned to be of a given minumum wattage?

Bought the ASUS P4 S 533-E cheap to be able to use my weird NCP 1GB high density wafers and wondered if you can upsize from the 2.0 GHZ Celeron it came with :)

"up to a speedy 2.2Ghz plus.." is the best the handbook describes....

Posting on the ASUS forums has got zero replies (no surprise since they seem to use the slowest forum engine in the world)!

Thats an easy one to answer, just visits the Asus CPU support page and check out your motherboards supported CPU list
SEE:

It looks like you have a very substantial "potential" jump
P4-2.80 GHz (533 FSB, L2 cache:512KB)
With bios revision 1006 or later installed
(you may need to flash your motherboard)

Thanks for rooting that out

HOW risky is a BIOS flash?

There is always a risk but in your case you probably haven't got much choice if you want a reasonable jump for the CPU upgrade.
Just be sure the flash is the correct file and the floppy disk used is not corrupt.
Take your time and it should be just fine.
