If you mean the password,
With a large 5.5 or so resistor, load the connections of the ram capacitor util voltage drops to less than 1/2 vdc. then put the thing back together and it will work. Goes for the old Rad too.
Good luck

I know for sure that there is a way to re-set the fastrad password through system programming. I've done it many times, but I have lost my notes and I'm missing a step.

Thanks for your help! While I got you-any idea why the passwords that I have stored in some of the fastrads default over time and have to be re-entered? It is like the rads are resetting for some of my customers.
There was an issue with FastRADs, identified by Nortel in Oct 2000.The "ROOT CAUSE" - The condition was diagnosed to be a sensitivity of the FastRAD power converter circuit associated with commercial power fluctuations. These power spikes may cause corruption of the Static RAM of the the unit, the result being the loss of some customer programmed data-only FastRAD password and system ID information can be affected. They started shipping an "enhanced" and "more robust" unit as of Aug 2000, these new units can be identified by the release niumber NT8B0AAAB Rel 03 or greater. The affected units can be either the FastRAD-NT8B0AR-93 or the subsequent up-issued FastRAD2 NT8B80AAAB. The replacement process expired Dec 31, 2001.

I have a E-Rad 2 dated 2001 / 04 and when I reset the nvram the RAD still asks for a password. ie When I dial 9** the display reads "Enter Password" I have tried radmin and all the basic passwords I can think of.
I have shorted the CAP and reset the nvram with the rad debugger and still have the same problem.
are there any other commands in rad debugger for defaulting?
Not for resetting the RAD, as far as I am aware. The debugger listed above works for me and just to be sure, I tested (again) it just before I wrote this.

There is a 2mb firmware update for the E-Rad which solved some problems with pri ddi remote accesss connections I have been told that you dont need the password to upgrade the rad and when the upgrade is complete the unit is in complete default and requires the input of a new password.
Anyone know where I can get the update or can some kind sole send it to RAD@sarason.demon.co.uk
njphones, I also get the same displays that you stated above when I pressed the 2 then the 1, then I press release. When I re-enter 9** I get Password, w/EXIT,CHNG,NEXT showing as softkey prompts. I select CHNG and enter a new password.
You may be right, it may be the programming is different for the UK, I don't know for sure. E-RAD? Same as FastRAD?

The norstar is sold by BT in the uk and BT demanded extra security for rads in the UK. They state that if the power failed and the memory backup cap was old there was a security risk. Therefore I think they store the password in the eeprom which is completely secure.
The uk E-Rad and the us fastrad are the same except for a small difference in the firmware.
So not wanting to give up I know there is a firmware update available for the us fastrad which solved some problems with DDI remote access and to update the firmware you dont need a password. When the update is complete and the rad has reset you then get the change password option.
So anyone know where to get the firmware update prog?
