I have a Norstar ICS with a Fastrad connected to it.
i have cahnged the system ID and Password. However i tried
to access it and it says "no answer" after the customer dials F9*0
thanks

try feature 9**
9*0 shows you the active feature codes for voice mail.

F9** will get you into the rad programing if you are on
site. I have already done that and programed the rad.
i think i may have over looked something in the rad programing to allow me access the rad from my office.
If i dail F9** on site i will go right into the rad programing. From my office i call the customer answers
and dials F9*0 i hear the modems handshake then the rad says no answer.

Are you sure the connection is setup for assisted transfer and not direct?

If you are getting a handshake and the connection fails, then the problem is the modem initialization string. Try using a different string, drop down the baud rate. Here are some strings you can try.

Modem does not respond to Remote Tools (but does to other communication programs).
- The COM port may not be released. Exit other programs and Windows to release COM port.
- Connect string may be incompatible with modem.
- Make sure all AT commands are after the &F command because &F resets the modem.
- Try default modem init strings:
- Remote Tools init string default is "EQ0X4V1&D2&C1S7=85".
- Suggested modem init strings for Remote Tools on specified modem models only:
- Motorola UDS "&F\Q&D3S7=90".
- US Robotics Sportster "EQ0X1V1&D2&C1S7=85&B1&I0S10=14".
- Microcom TravelPorte "EQ0X4V1&D2&C1S7=85\V0".
- Practical Peripherals "EQ0X1V1&D2&C1S7=85&K0&Q6S37=11".
- Hayes Accura "EQ0X1V1&D2&C1S7=85&K0&Q6S37=11".
- Check factory defaults.
- Modems may have incompatible factory settings. Check the &F factory settings on the modem via the terminal program and check the modem manual for other templates available. Fax/Modems can have a FAX template for the factory default, which may result in problems.
- Some modems have DIP switch settings that will change the factory reset. See your modem manual.
- Some modems can have their factory settings reprogrammed. Turn the modem off and back on, then try to reset. If the modem uses flash memory for the factory default, this can cause problems.
- Standard Result codes are required:
- Result codes should be enabled. This is usually "Q0" in the modem init string.
- Remote Tools require verbal result codes. Verbal "V1" is the default.
- Basic result codes are required:
- These basic result codes should be returned: OK, CONNECT, RING, NO CARRIER, ERROR
- This is usually set by "X0" or "X1".
- "X4" is the default used, which should return the basic result codes plus other useful result code information.
- Error correction and non-standard result codes can cause problems.
- Error correction return codes should be turned off:
- Microcom TravelPorte modem may need "\V0X4" to return standard result codes.
- British Telecom modems require "&E0".
- Error correction should be turned off.
- DTR operations should be normal. (hang up when DTR is dropped)
- Usually "&D2".
- Motorola UDS requires "&D3".
- Flow control problems (frequent disconnects)
- XON/XOFF flow control should be turned off (usually "&K0")
- Software flow control should be turned off (usually "&H0" and/or "&I0").
- US Robotics Sportster should have "&I0".
- Hardware control should be turned off or be hardware only (usually "&H0").
- S-register settings recommendations:
- S7 Modem timeout:
- For Remote Tools, "S7=85" should be sufficient.
- Some modems (UK and foreign) may not allow more than 60 seconds, so set this to "S7=60" in these cases.
- S10 Time to delay hang up after loss of carrier:
- This should be "S10=14".
- S37 Maximum DCE speed:
- This should be set to allow 14400.
- Usually "S37=11".
- This is required on Hayes Accura, Practical Periperals, and Telebit modems in order to maintain a connection to the IRAD. Connecting at 2400 baud (DTE rate) using Remote Tools should maintain a good connection with these modems.
- Check other S-register settings. See your modem manual.

Modem does not connect to any RAD at all baud rate settings.
- Use Hayes compatible modem with non-fax settings.
- The serial port should be at a fixed setting. Keep fixed high rate between PC (DTE) and modem (DCE):
- Many modems can automatically change com port settings. Remote Tools requires fixed settings.
- US Robotics Sportster and ZyXEL: Use "&B1" in the modem init strings in this case.
- Some modems use other &B, %B and $B parameters to control serial port speed.
- Some modems use "\J #" to do this (GVC and Motorola UDS noted, but different parameters).
- The modem should allow connections at 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, and 14400 baud:
- V.22bis and V.32bis allowing 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, and 14400 baud.
- Most modems have several AT commands and parameters that can restrict baud rates. These are usually non-standard between different modem manufactures and types. See your modem manual.
- Performance improvements can be made on high speed (28.8k) modems by setting the maximum speed to be lower, but all modems use different settings and may cause the above problem.
- Only basic result codes are required (see Standard Result codes above).
- I-RAD has Fast and Slow settings.
- On Fast I-RAD, 4800 (DCE) or higher must be used.
- FastRAD must use 4800 (DCE) or higher.

Modem does not connect to I-RAD reliably but connects to other RAD types
- IRAD connections may require DCE/DTE speed adjustments. See S37 parameter above.
- I-RAD has Fast and Slow settings.
- On Fast I-RAD, 4800 (DCE) or higher must be used.

Modem loses connection frequently, but other communication software functions.
- Try different KSUs to make sure the problem is not at the remote site.
- Use a good quality CO line and connection.
- Make sure software flow control is turned off.
- Error correction should be turned off.
- High speed modems (28.8) should be limited to a lower baud rate via modem init string.
- The RAD will disconnect if the PC does not respond frequently. Do not run applications in Windows that will lock the CPU for long periods of time. An example of this is copying 10 Megabytes to a slow network drive.
